February, the shortest month of the year, and the stormiest month we have had in YEARS in New Jersey. It snows almost nonstop and feet upon feet! So, most of my regular physical activities were incredibly limited. And actually, the month started with a huge inner conflict. On February 1, I was all set to embark on a 4-day SOLO trip to the cabins of Catskills to celebrate my birthday and be DISCONNECTED from the world. I desperately needed time to recoup, refresh and reflect.
But alas, on the first of the month came the snowstorm of the century (I am exaggerating but seriously it was the biggest snowstorm we’ve had in years). I desperately tried to plow myself out even though the snow was pouring down from the sky.
The snow lover in me was DELIGHTED.
The traveler in me was INFURIATED.
I cried — literal years for about a minute, wiped my tears and walked back into the house.
Then I did the only sensible thing to do – I called and canceled all my reservations.
That is how the month began…let’s find out how it progressed from there.
Here goes nothing…!
- Finally a REAL Snowstorm
- Everyone in New Jersey complains about winter – ironic given winter is a very NORMAL part of the 12-month process for a state that is in the mid/upper east of the United States. Still, the whiners whine.
I am not one of them. I love winter. I love snow so it was to my heart’s delight when on the first night of the snowstorm, we were already up to my knees.
From there on, it was just an ongoing monthlong of snow and I was all about it! After all, my trip had already been canceled, it might as well be for a damn good reason!

- Snow Hikes
- Despite the constant park closures due to the snowstorms, I was able to get 1 new NJ State Park and 2-weekend hikes.

- Made a Hour-by-Hour Weekly Schedule
- I really needed to see my schedule VISUALLY and the only logical way to do that way to put it on a bulletin board and adjust as needed. It has really helped me be less wasteful of my time. I don’t follow it as well as I wish I would, but it’s a start!
- Enjoyed my Monthly Sunrise (Sunset was not an option because of the constant snow/cloud every weekend)
- Sticking to my monthly routine of observing sunrise. Technically I did see sunsets from the comfort of my bedroom window — haha, but not out in nature.
