Life, Monthly Milestone Recap

February Milestones: What Were They?

February, the shortest month of the year, and the stormiest month we have had in YEARS in New Jersey. It snows almost nonstop and feet upon feet! So, most of my regular physical activities were incredibly limited. And actually, the month started with a huge inner conflict. On February 1, I was all set to embark on a 4-day SOLO trip to the cabins of Catskills to celebrate my birthday and be DISCONNECTED from the world. I desperately needed time to recoup, refresh and reflect.

But alas, on the first of the month came the snowstorm of the century (I am exaggerating but seriously it was the biggest snowstorm we’ve had in years). I desperately tried to plow myself out even though the snow was pouring down from the sky.

The snow lover in me was DELIGHTED.

The traveler in me was INFURIATED.

I cried — literal years for about a minute, wiped my tears and walked back into the house.

Then I did the only sensible thing to do – I called and canceled all my reservations.

That is how the month began…let’s find out how it progressed from there.

Here goes nothing…!

  1. Finally a REAL Snowstorm
    • Everyone in New Jersey complains about winter – ironic given winter is a very NORMAL part of the 12-month process for a state that is in the mid/upper east of the United States. Still, the whiners whine.
I am not one of them. I love winter. I love snow so it was to my heart’s delight when on the first night of the snowstorm, we were already up to my knees.
From there on, it was just an ongoing monthlong of snow and I was all about it! After all, my trip had already been canceled, it might as well be for a damn good reason!

  1. Snow Hikes
    • Despite the constant park closures due to the snowstorms, I was able to get 1 new NJ State Park and 2-weekend hikes.

  1. Made a Hour-by-Hour Weekly Schedule
    • I really needed to see my schedule VISUALLY and the only logical way to do that way to put it on a bulletin board and adjust as needed. It has really helped me be less wasteful of my time. I don’t follow it as well as I wish I would, but it’s a start!

  1. Enjoyed my Monthly Sunrise (Sunset was not an option because of the constant snow/cloud every weekend)
    • Sticking to my monthly routine of observing sunrise. Technically I did see sunsets from the comfort of my bedroom window — haha, but not out in nature.

  1. Enrolled in Jay Shetty’s Genuis Coaching Program!
    • Thanks to my friend, I enrolled in Jay Shetty’s Genius Coaching Program for 3 months! It’s an awesome program and after trying a free 5-day session he was offering, my friend decided to join for the year and gift me her 3-month program!

  1. Launched the SN Spring Box 2021!

  1. Made Birthday Dinner
    • No, not mine again. Haha! I made a birthday dinner, all grain-free, all from scratch for my bestie!
      • Appetizer: Grain-Free, Pizza with homemade sauce, sauteed onion, and fresh basil
      • Dinner: Chili Noodles with Tofu in a Chili Sauce; It’s like Pad-Thai but different!
      • Dessert: Delicious Grain-Free Yellow Cake with Homemade Whipped Cream and Raspberry Jam Layers. Recipe courtesy of Sweet Laurel Bakery cookbook.

  1. Read 10 Books
    • 9 Physical Books
      • Homegoing by Yaa Gyaasi
      • No One is Too Small To Make a Difference by Greta Thunberg
      • 84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff
      • A Good Marriage by Kimberly McCreight
      • The City Baker’s Lief to Country Living by Louise Miller
      • The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse
      • The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak
      • The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah
      • The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan
    • 1 Audiobook:
      • The Rosie Project by Graeme Simison

Biggest Takeaway: Stay Consistent. Obstacles will ALWAYS arise no matter how much you plan. Don’t Give Up. Don’t Beat Yourself Up. Just Get Back on the Horse.

Here’s looking at you, March and a month of many more accomplishments!
