January 25: The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner

IMG_9512I have been reading this book for two years now (I only read it on leisurely beach-type getaways), so it’s been taking me ages and I haven’t finished. The book is only 345 pages, I might add. It’s not that I’m a slow reader, it’s just I like to read this book at a pace that allows me to visualize exactly what the author is describing and really soak it in. Let me explain what the book is about.

Eric Weiner travels around the world seeking which country is the happiest. is it India? Bhutan? Switzerland? Iceland? Qatar? His description of inspired moments and ephiphanies will charm you, move you, make you laugh out loud, make you question the idea of happiness and even enlighten you. Each chapter is broken up into the 10 countries he visits and it is one of the most calmest books I’ve ever read, not because its mellow in content but because of how I feel when reading it. It’s a very easy read and maybe you’ll want to read it in one shot. But for me, one chapter/country per trip is how I like to approach it.

If you get a chance, please pick it up. It is a remarkable read (and you don’t have to be an avid traveler to enjoy it)

Happy Reading!
