I will be the first to admit that I wasn’t super excited about the Dancing with the Stars lineup this season, other than for Jodie Sweetin (from Full House and Fuller House). And when I saw watched the first episode, I had no idea who most of them were (and the ones I did know, I didn’t feel any excitement for). But then Nyle DiMarco took stage and everything changed. If you don’t know who he is, you need to watch this first for the backstory and then this for the actual performance, after that you can google him.

Finding out that he is deaf, comes from four generations of deafness, doesn’t wear a hearing aid, can’t hear vibration of the music (unless its super loud), in fact, all he relies on his watching his partners body movement, I could not be more blown away. I’ve since continued to watch his dances from week 2, week 3, week 4 and now week 5. To say that I am impressed is a huge understatement. As a dancer and a dance instructor, I know what goes into choreography, learning choreography and ultimately executing to every single beat. For him to dance the way he does without being able to hear a thing — its absolutely astounding.

In one of his backstories, I found out that he had traveled the world by himself, without an interpreter and I was so blown away. Imagine for one second that you can’t hear anything, at all and you’re in foreign land, communicating all your needs through a medium most people are not able to understand. The challenge of it is immense and to be daring enough to go on that journey alone, is brave. He inspires me so much, proof, that anyone can do anything if they want to.

I started watching this season for Jodie, but it’s really Nyle that I’m hooked on.

He also happens to be VERY easy on the eyes. =o)

Happy Dancing!
