Zen Palate Ruined My Palate

For years I’ve been hearing how amazing Zen Palate is for vegetarians. Seeing that my best friend is vegetarian, I even considered taking him for his birthday over the last many years. But after today’s accidental encounter at the Union Square location, THANK GOD I never did! The menu (which is extensive) looked wonderful from the outside, not to mention the Daily News article (from 2010) plastered on the window as a means of enticement. I think we barely glanced at the menu for a few seconds before walking in. The place is a dump (but fine, we got past that). After looking over the menu, I ordered the Vegetable (Rice) Noodle Soup (I wasn’t very hungry and wanted something small) and my friend ordered the Celestial Tofu (fried tofu with broccoli, served with a side of brown rice). May 16: Thumbtack

Thumbtack is a consumer service company committed to bringing together local pros (think house cleaner, personal trainer, lawn mower, massage therapist, chimney cleaner, photo booth rental, yoga instructor and everything in between) with customers seeking those services. It’s like Angie’s List, except you don’t have to pay to find what you’re looking for.

May 9: American Automobile Association (AAA)

Today, my car broke down, for what is probably the umpteenth time. I did what I always do, called AAA. Being stranded with a car issue can be very overwhelming and unnerving, which is why having the peace of mind with a auto services, such as AAA is a life saver. You are not obligated to make any big decision on the spot, instead, just have the car towed (or tire replaced, gas filled) and take your time thinking through the next step. My car trouble today, was huge – the motor was making such a horrifying noise, it sounded like the insides of the car were tumbling in a dryer. I was 22+ miles from home and trying to resolve the issue on the spot was not an option. It was already close of business for most places, I didn’t know how much it would cost, where I would take it, so instead, I had the option of towing it home and didn’t have to pay a single additional penny out of pocket.  Continue reading “Daily Recommendation: American Automobile Association (AAA)”

Daily Recommendations: TodayTix

March 11: TodayTix

TodayTix is an app that provides last minute (up to 7 days in advance) theater tickets at great discount prices. I’ve used several discount ticket apps and sites before, but none have been as wonderful as TodayTix with service, cost, and ticket options.

Shows, Ticket Prices and Seats

With TodayTix, you pick your show, time and seat preference (Orchestra, Mezzanine, Balcony) but not the actual seats. TodayTix assigns seats based on availabilities in your chosen area/price range. On the day of the show, a TodayTix representative will hand deliver your ticket in front of the venue, 30 minutes prior to the start of the show, which means no waiting in line!

Shows I’ve seen using TodayTix

Thank You, Macys!

Macy’s just gave me the most wonderful customer service today! Let me take you back to how it all started….

Last week, I ordered the Martha Stewart Collection Allergywise 2 Pack Euro Pillows on the Macy’s website, to be picked up at a local Macy’s store. The order was processed but a day later it was cancelled because the location no longer carried the item. I used a gift card to make the purchase, and the card was restored to its original amount.
