Zen Palate Ruined My Palate

For years I’ve been hearing how amazing Zen Palate is for vegetarians. Seeing that my best friend is vegetarian, I even considered taking him for his birthday over the last many years. But after today’s accidental encounter at the Union Square location, THANK GOD I never did! The menu (which is extensive) looked wonderful from the outside, not to mention the Daily News article (from 2010) plastered on the window as a means of enticement. I think we barely glanced at the menu for a few seconds before walking in. The place is a dump (but fine, we got past that). After looking over the menu, I ordered the Vegetable (Rice) Noodle Soup (I wasn’t very hungry and wanted something small) and my friend ordered the Celestial Tofu (fried tofu with broccoli, served with a side of brown rice). Bar Americain: Expensive but Yummy

I had a great time at Bar Americain. The food was delicious – I do love the flavors Bobby Flay puts together. The ambiance and location was perfect for a pre-theater dinner and the service was on point.

Having said all that, it is exactly what you would expect from a famous chef’s restaurant: overpriced. I think once you accept the fact that this is for the experience, therefore, you will pay a premium for it, it’s totally fine. Continue reading “Bar Americain: Expensive but Yummy”

Daily Recommendation: Homemade Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

August 9: Homemade Oatmeal Raising Cookies

I recently bought two containers of old fashioned Quaker Oats and after attempting for the nth time to make it a breakfast regular, I realized it was useless. I just don’t like the taste of it! On the inside of the cover, there was a recipe for oatmeal raisin cookies (my parents’ favorite). So I thought I would give it a shot. The recipe is super easy and not very time consuming.

Best Pizza… EVER in Kutna Hora!

Small town. Dark. Gray. Cloudy. Medieval. Cobblestones. Quiet. Secluded. Historic. No English. These are the words that describe the little town of Kutna Hora in Czech Republic. It was quite an interesting January Tuesday when Dad and I ventured off from the capital of Prague to visit the Bohemian town of Kutna Hora. I knew it was going to be a dark town, but I guess I didn’t really know what more to expect. Certainly didn’t know that we’d be having the BEST pizza we’ve ever had here of all places! After some vague direction from a non-English speaking local, then from a fluent English speaking local and with the help of a map from the information center, we walked all around the little town. Eventually, we were starving and being on a budget meant no fancy sit down restaurant, though to be honest, nothing could really qualify as fancy in Kutna Hora. Down an alley towards St. James Church, off of the central square we stumbled on a little pizza shop, Mini Pizzeria Vita.  Continue reading “Best Pizza… EVER in Kutna Hora!”

Long Wait at Long Grain but So Worth It

Last day of our trip to Maine and I had saved the best for last. Sunny, breezy summer Tuesday afternoon in Camden, Maine when I decided to call Long Grain to make reservations for 5. I had been waiting weeks to try this place after hearing about it from fellow bloggers and reading about it on NY Times. I almost hesitated though, do I really need reservations for a week night in this quiet little town? Turns outYES, yes I did. Fasting as we were, we had hoped for a time slot between 7:45pm-8:15pm, which would put us in the perfect time to break fast. Much to my dismay, they could only offer us a 6:30pm (definitely a no go) or a 8:45pm (the restaurant closes at 9pm). With no option left (and the fear of not getting to eat here – you don’t understand, I HAD to eat here before I left; it was the highlight on my itinerary), I OK-ed the 8:45pm. Figured we could snack on some dessert from a nearby bakery prior to dinner. Continue reading “Long Wait at Long Grain but So Worth It”

Thai Thai – Nice Ambiance, Hit or Miss Food

A new Thai place to try in New Jersey? YES PLEASE! So far I’ve tried 5 Thai restaurants in NJ and have my favorite but am hoping to find one that will top it (no luck yet). This particular restaurant, Thai Thai, was a little ways out of the way nestled in Stirling, NJ so I was really hoping it would be GOOD! It was neither here nor there. Here are the specifics.

I know my Thai food pretty well. Thus, my recommendations when it comes to the same are quite solid in my opinion. Continue reading “Thai Thai – Nice Ambiance, Hit or Miss Food”

April 30/May 1: Meet Kate Allen

The most amazing thing happened to me today, I met Kate! I went to Milk+Honey in Austin, Texas to get my hair colored and cut and Kate was my hairstylist. Needless to say, I absolutely LOVE my new balayage LOB with bangs look, but I got so much more than just an amazing hair transformation.

April 11: Fornelletto  at the Borgata

Recently, I had dinner at Fornelletto at the Borgata in Atlantic City during restaurant week. For $35, we ate a three course meal that was absolutely delicious! Normally very picky about Italian food, I am not easily swayed but this place was really tasty.

April 5: Your Health, Your Priority

I’ve always been relatively active – dance, gym, kick boxing, zumba, aerobics, yoga. You name it, and I’ve tried it, BUT I’ve never been consistent with any of it. Add to that my absurd love affair with food, and I’m basically a walking disaster. And I didn’t really care, until I hit my 30s. Continue reading “Daily Recommendation: Your Health, Your Priority”

Daily Recommendation: Don’t Begin with “So” on Snapchat

April 2/3: Don’t  Begin with “So” on Snapchat

It’s as annoying as saying “umm” during a presentation, the word, “so”. I felt my body cringe every time I heard myself begin a snap with the word and soon realized that I wasn’t the only one. The amount of people who began their snaps with the same useless word was paramount! So, I decided  to do quick research to see if it was a talked about topic, and what do you know? It certainly is!
